Sunset Trail No. 23, Mount Elden

Built along the ridge that separates the east and west faces of Mount Elden, Sunset Trail was used as a fire break to limit the encroachment of the Radio Fire in 1977 to the northwest (right) side of the mountain. The burn scar is still very evident at the top of the mountain, though shadier aspects of the summit are seeing resurgent growth of quaking aspens pictured here during the autumn months. The rebuilt radio towers and fire lookout at the summit have since proved to be a popular gathering point for cyclists preparing to descend from the top of the mountain. | Source:
