John L. Lewis, owner of the Lewis Hotel on Lake McDonald, commissioned the boat for service on the lake. From Flathead, it was hauled sixty miles up the Middle Fork of the Flathead River, navigated through narrow McDonald Creek, then pushed laboriously over primitive muddy roads to finally be relaunched on Lake McDonald as the Lewtana. | Source:
